Gravitational waves and data processing

Abstract:

The detection of gravitational waves (GWs) opens a new window into understanding our universe. GWs are emitted from rapidly changing strong gravitational fields, such as compact binary coalescing (CBC), core-collapse supernovae, rotating neutron stars, and cosmological phase transitions. GWs are used to constrain the gravitational theory and probe cosmology. To date, the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) collaboration has detected 90 GW events. In this talk, I will briefly review GWs and GW detectors. Then, I will review the matched filtering method for searching GW signals. The Fisher matrix and Bayesian inference for estimating the parameters of the GW source will be reviewed at last.
