Abstract:
Extreme mass ratio inspirals (EMRIs) are among the most promising sources for future space-based GW detectors. An EMRI occurs when a stellar-mass object (the secondary) is trapped in a sufficiently tight orbit of a supermassive black hole (the primary). In this talk, I will introduce the extreme mass ratio inspirals occurring in modified gravity, for which the system is modeled by a small compact object with scalar charge spiraling into a supermassive Kerr black hole. Besides the tensorial gravitational waves arising from the metric perturbations, radiation is also induced by the scalar field perturbation. The presence of additional scalar emission beyond GR indicates the possibility of detecting the scalar charge. This is a broad talk that will briefly discuss some of the research directions and progress, as well as our group's research interest.
