Abstract:
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are the luminous gamma-ray flashes occurring in our universe. Three popular models had been proposed to interpret the energetic emission of GRB prompt phase: the internal shock (IS), the magnetic-reconnection (MR), and the photosphere models. In this talk, I will give a brief introduction to the GRBs and polarizations. Then polarizations in GRB prompt phase (both observations and theories) will be introduced in detail. For the non-thermal (synchrotron) interpretation of the GRB prompt emission (e.g., the IS and MR models), their polarization degree can rise toward high energy band, while it decays to zero for the dissipative photosphere model (thermal emission). Therefore, the spectropolarimetry of GRB prompt emission could be used to distinguish the non-thermal (IS and MR) models from the thermal (dissipative photosphere) model.
