Abstract:
Strong gravitational lensing is the formation of multiple images of background objects due to the gravity of intervening foreground objects. This rare but fascinating phenomenon has been exploited as a unique and powerful tool for probing baryons, dark matter, and cosmology. In this talk, I will give a brief overview of strong-lens searches in various domains and present several case studies of how strong gravitational lensing events can be used to learn about galaxy evolution. I will conclude by discussing opportunities from the forthcoming Chinese Space Station Telescope and Wide Field Survey Telescope.
