Public Lecture on Nov. 22, 2019

What do we know about Dark Matter?

Speaker: Charling Tao (CNRS)

Venue: 云南大学天文楼1号楼报告厅/ Auditorium, SWIFAR Building, YNU

Time: 7:00 PM, Friday, November 22, 2019

Abstract:

We live in a mysterious Universe, where what we know is less than 5% of the energy of the Universe, dominated today by Dark Energy and Dark Matter. Recently, gravitational waves predicted by General relativity have been detected, black holes horizons have been observed, Dark Energy could be a cosmological constant... But the nature of Dark Matter is still unknown and open to many hypothesis. Extensions of the Standard Model of Particle Physics like Supersymmetry expect particles which are neutral and interact very weakly with other forms of matter. In this talk I will briefly review what we really know about Dark Matter, and address some detection issues, which lead us to develop the most sensitive detectors on Earht, below earth and below the sea,  and in space.
