Abstract:There are many observational evidence for the co-evolution between the supermassive black hole and its host galaxy. It is widely thought that the underlying physical mechanism is the interaction between the central active galactic nuclei and the galaxy, i.e., AGN feedback. This is a young field and many problems remain. For example, since the AGN is usually unresolved, 'sub-grid' physics has to be adopted and some parameterized approach to describe the AGN physics is used in the study. In this talk, after introducing some background of AGN feedback, I will introduce our most recent series of works on AGN feedback using high-resolution two-dimensional hydrodynamical numerical simulation. The key improvement in our works is that we adopt the most-updated AGN physics. The inner boundary of our simulation is small enough so that we can resolve the Bondi radius thus precisely calculate the accretion rate, which is crucial for feedback study. Interaction between wind and radiation from the AGN and interstellar medium of the galaxy is calculated, physical processes like star formation and SNe Ia and II are taken into account. We study the AGN light curve, typical AGN lifetime, growth of the black hole mass, AGN duty cycle, star formation, and X-ray surface brightness of the galaxy. We compare our simulation results with observations and find general consistency.
